Talent Pageant Ideas

Singing is a popular pageant talent.

Showcase your natural or practiced abilities in a talent competition. Talents may include anything you can perform exceptionally well, such as singing, dancing or twirling baton. Get creative and try a less traditional talent, like martial arts or stand-up comedy to showcase something unique about yourself. The important thing is to make it a talent that highlights your ability.

Musical Talent

Singing and playing musical instruments are traditional talents. Consider playing a musical instrument you have practiced for a long time, such as the piano, violin or harp. Choose to sing a song that reflects your vocal talent. Song choice is up to you, so consider popular songs, classical pieces or opera selections. Musical talents are popular because they are easily performed on a stage because spacing is not a factor. Acoustics can, however, pose challenges for this talent. Check the pageant requirements for time and content restraints so you can appropriately orchestrate your performance piece.

Dance Talents

From tap to ballet, performing a dance routine is a fun talent idea. Showcasing your dance talent can be challenging with small stages because of space restrictions, but by checking these restrictions ahead of time, you can choreograph the routine around this challenge. Be sure to also check the time limits to make sure the music and routine are choreographed to fit the allotted time. Remember to choose music that is not only appropriate for the pageant, but that highlights your movements and rhythm.

Speech Talents

Choose a talent that consists of speaking, such as poetry recitation, storytelling or stand-up comedy. Try using a dramatic piece, and work with the lighting experts set the mood for your piece, or ask for a single spot light for your comedy routine. Routines need to be memorized and should be arranged to fit within the time requirements. Consider routines that reflect your personality and interests. Keep the material relevant and appropriate for all audience types and be sure to dress to match the part.

Specialized Talents

Highlight a special interest talent that requires instruction and practice. Talents that fit into this category include baton twirling, martial arts and gymnastics. The options are limited only by your interest, so think about skills that you have or would like to develop further. Keep in mind that space is a restriction for this type of talent, so be sure you choose something you can perform on a stage, and that does not require a lot of equipment.
