Princeton University

Rated first among all universities by "U.S. News and World Report" in 2010, Princeton University is an Ivy League college with approximately 7,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Although arts programs at the university do not require auditions, admission to Princeton is highly selective; less than 10 percent of those who apply receive an invitation to attend the university, reports the 2009 "Barron's Profiles of American Colleges." All students at the university spend their first two years completing general education requirements and then may choose to pursue majors and certificates. The university grants a baccalaureate degree in music as well as master's degrees in composition and musicology. Students interested in pursuing studies in theater or dance major in a secondary area such as English, literature, art and archaeology or classics and then graduate with a bachelor's degree in the area of their choice and a certificate in the arts. Notable graduates of Princeton's performing arts programs include musician Stanley Jordan, actress Brooke Shields and actors David Duchovny and Jimmy Stewart.
