Stop Cars From Rusting

Car rust can be tough to prevent.

When rust starts to form, it is likely going to spread. The more it spreads and the deeper it gets, the more difficult it will be to remove. In fact, if the rust gets all the way through the metal of your car's body, then that portion will need to be completely replaced to repair the rust and to stop it from spreading. Because rusting can become such a serious and costly condition for a car, the best thing to do is to stop your car from rusting in the first place.

Instructions

1. Clean dirt off your car as it accumulates. The cleaner your car is, the less likely it will be to rust. Clean with car wash soap and hot water at least once a month, or more often when the weather is bad.

2. Keep your car in a garage. This will keep your car dry, and prevent exposure to rust-causing moisture. It will also keep your car cleaner longer.

3. Wax your car. After you wash your car each month, buff on some quality car wax with a soft cloth. A coat of wax will keep away moisture and protect your car from rust.

4. Touch up any areas of your car that get chipped. When the paint chips off and the metal is exposed, rust is more likely to develop and spread. Use car touch-up paint that matches the existing color of your car.
