Strip Paint From Moulding

Strip Paint From Moulding

Stripping paint from molding can be done in a few ways. One way involves removing the molding and using chemical stripper to prevent a mess all over the floor. This method is unnecessarily time-consuming. A second method involves using traditional paint stripper while the molding is in place. This is a cost-effective method but the mess is a large drawback. A third option, which is more expensive but significantly less messy and far simpler, involves paint stripper kits made specifically for this task. This article will show you do both option two and three so you can choose the best option for your budget.

Instructions

1. Cover any areas of floor immediately under where you will be working. Tape the covering to the floor so it will not shift.

2. Read the paint stripper instructions very carefully. This chemical is dangerous, poisonous and requires excellent ventilation. Be certain that you have educated yourself as to not only use the chemical, but also prepare for its use, protect yourself during use and clean up after using it before you even open the container. All of this information will be clearly marked on your paint stripper container.

3. Apply the paint stripper according to package directions. The stripper kits will also include a wax paper strip that needs to be applied.

4. Let the paint soften according to the paint stripper packaging specifications.

5. Remove the dissolved paint, using whichever method your paint stripper recommends. A stiff brush or wire brush may be helpful for cleaning out any fine detail on the molding.

6. Dispose of your drop cloth or newspapers carefully. The stripped paint should not come into contact with your skin.
