The Best Way To Remove Paint From Car

Don't smoke while working with flammable solvents like lacquer thinner.

Paint transfers from auto accidents and paint splatters from road construction can mar your automobile's finish with unattractive stains. Eliminating these paint marks can be a risky proposition. If you use overly aggressive techniques in an attempt to remove paint from your car, you could damage the very surface you are trying to save. Knowing the proper cleaning materials and techniques to use can keep you from turning a minor flaw into an expensive repair.

Instructions

1. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.

2. Dampen a cloth shop rag with lacquer thinner. Wring excess solvent from the rag to prevent dripping.

3. Wipe the rag against the paint. Wait 10 seconds for the lacquer thinner to loosen the adhesives within the paint.

4. Remove the paint from the car's finish by rubbing it in a circular motion with a terry cloth. Dry excess solvent using a clean, dry rag.

5. If paint remains, dampen another rag with lacquer thinner and wipe down any remaining paint. Eliminate the remaining paint by buffing it, using a buffing wheel equipped with a wool pad. Dry excess solvent using a clean, dry rag.
