Repairing Holes In Canvas Painting

Restoring your canvas painting is simple.

Tearing a hole in a treasured canvas painting is disastrous. Depending on the severity of the damage, restoration professionals can charge hundreds of dollars to repair a torn painting. While it is recommended to consult the assistance of a professional if the painting is valuable, simple jobs can be completed at home. If you can use glue, you can repair a hole in a canvas painting.

Instructions

1. Remove the canvas painting from the frame. Set the frame aside. Place the painting on a flat table so the hole is easily visible. Remove the canvas material from the repair kit.

2. Cut a patch from the canvas material large enough to cover the hole.

3. Turn the painting over so the back of the painting is facing upward.

4. Close the flaps of the hole, if possible. Apply adhesive glue to one side of the patch. Place the patch directly over the hole.

5. Put pressure on the patch with your finger for approximately five minutes, or until the adhesive glue dries.

6. Turn the painting over so the front of the painting is facing upward.

7. Cut any protruding pieces of canvas left over from the hole using scissors. Trim the canvas until it is smooth.

8. Color the patched area with paint that matches the surrounding area. Replace the painting into the frame.
