The talent portion of any pageant is often the only time when you can stand out and have your personality shine through. Try on many different styles and fabrics to see what suits you most and when possible, practice your talent in the outfit. Choose an ensemble that you will be comfortable in, is appropriate and reflects you and the talent you'll be showcasing.
Princess-Style Gown
A princess-style gown can be a beautiful choice to make you shine. It's an especially wise choice if you won't be moving around too much on stage. For instance, consider wearing a princess dress if you will be singing or playing a musical instrument like the violin or piano. It's also a nice option if you are not wearing anything similar to it during the rest of the pageant.
A Formal Dress
Wearing a formal dress for the talent portion of your pageant is typically a safe bet. If there is another part of the pageant where you will be wearing a formal gown, make sure this one is vastly different. Consider a different length, color and style when choosing your outfit. Be sure it is a gown that you can move around easily in while you perform and one that makes you feel confident.
More Casual
If you want an outfit that will reflect a different side to your personal style, look for something more casual. When choosing the perfect outfit, be sure it's not too informal. A blouse and skirt is one option that you may want to try. Another idea is to wear a dress that is not considered evening wear. Look for a lighter weight fabric with a less intricate design and fewer embellishments. Though you are going for a less formal look, you may want to still wear pantyhose with closed toe shoes.
Costume
Wearing a costume is sometimes the most suitable choice during your talent competition. For example, if you will be showcasing a cheerleading routine, a cheerleading costume is understandable and acceptable. If you will be performing a ballet routine, then a ballet outfit would make the most sense. Just remember to choose a costume that is appropriate. You shouldn't reveal so much skin that it becomes distracting or disrespectful to the judges and audience. Consider wearing tights with the outfit, even if you normally wouldn't.
