Start A Career In Acting

Whether you were the kid who always played Let's Pretend or the class clown, you knew you had a future in acting. True, very few people make it big as Hollywood stars, but an acting career may not be as difficult as some people say. Like any career anyone pursues, it just takes hard work and determination more than anything else.

Instructions

1. Take acting classes. Find out if there is a theater program at your school. Or look for a theater school in your area.

2. Audition for as many shows as you can. This should include not just shows at your school, but at any local theater in your area. Many of these won't pay, but it's the experience that counts.

3. Take acting classes in college only as a minor or less. A major degree in theater arts won't help much toward a career. It's talent and experience that counts.

4. Get an agent if you're looking for a career in bigger markets like New York or Los Angeles. Be sure to find one that specializes in the type of work you're looking for, such as theater, film, television, commercials or voiceovers.

5. Avoid any agents who ask for money up front. Remember that legitimate agents get paid only after you get work.

6. Take whatever acting jobs you can get. Audition for each job with the same devotion and drive. Aspire to be bigger, but don't consider anything too small.
