Original Members Of The Group Cover Girls

The Cover Girls had the look, but not the tenacity, to stick around long on the Latin hip hop scene. The New York trio scored some minor hits with its first album release in 1987. By the time its second album dropped in 1989, the faces had changed and the group had already started to unravel.

"Show Me"

Louise "Angel" Sabater, Sunshine Wright and Caroline Jackson were the original Cover Girls when "Show Me" was released in 1987. With songs such as "Inside Outside," "Because of You, "One Night Affair" and the title track, the album was "among freestyle's most important releases," according to reviewer Alex Henderson of All Music. However, Henderson also wrote that the three original Cover Girls "weren't fantastic singers" and "their voices were undeniably thin."

"We Can't Go Wrong"

Margo Urban replaced Sunshine Wright for the group's 1989 album, "We Can't Go Wrong." The album topped out at No. 108 on the "Billboard" charts. Reviewer David Bertrand Wilson called the album "dreadful" and said "everything went wrong on this follow-up."

"Here It Is"

By the time "Here It Is" came out in 1992, Sabater and Urban had been replaced by Evelyn Escalera and Michelle Valentine. A single, a remake of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star," garnered a little attention, but the album was not well received. Overall, the album proved the group was just "another interchangeable dance combo," according to Wilson. Another album, "Satisfy," was released in 1996 with none of the original members. The group disbanded shortly after "Satisfy" bombed.

Original Cover Girl

As of 2011, Wright and Jackson were no longer in the public spotlight. Sabeter was still performing as a freestyle/dance artist under the name "Angel." She billed herself as "The Original Cover Girl."
