Reword Sentences For Performance Reviews

Reword Sentences for Performance Reviews

In a performance review, you and your manager communicate through writing your respective sections of the review, listing your expectations and achievements, and mapping out the work year to come. Performance reviews usually require a self-assessment and list of accomplishments. It's important to communicate clearly, professionally and persuasively, and to avoid underselling yourself and your accomplishments.

Instructions

1. Present quantifiable results. Rather than saying something vague about your work over the course of a year, list what you produced. Use specific numbers rather than imprecise words like "several" or "a few."

2. Identify how items contributed to the team overall. Include documentation and training you provided for your co-workers and other staff.

3. List your time spent in classes and identify what you hoped to get out of the class in terms of your work or career. If you are following a course of self-directed reading, you might want to include that information, along with several sample titles.

4. Make sure the goals you list on your performance review are specific and measurable. If necessary, identify how often something will take place--each week, each month, for example--over the course of the upcoming year.

5. Use action verbs, like wrote, produced, led, taught. Short, punchy words are more effective.

6. Be proud and thorough in listing your achievements. No one can make your case more knowledgeably and persuasively than you. List specific names and dates for awards and classes, and other job and career-related events. Doublecheck your list to make sure you have included everything.

7. Print out your prose and read it aloud, marking changes as you go. Reading aloud helps you look at sentences on an individual level as well as how they lead into each other.
