Painting On Chalkboards

Painting on chalkboards has all kinds of creative applications, including making your own signs.

Painting on chalkboards with chalkboard paint has many applications for your home or other household projects. You can find chalkboard paint at hardware or paint stores. You can make a chalkboard for a child or paint a wall in his bedroom. By placing a frame around it, you will create a chalkboard. Kids can play games, draw or do school work. Other options for chalkboards include your wedding directions or to use for restaurant menus. Use a chalkboard at your home entryway for notes, reminders and grocery lists.

Instructions

1. Prepare the surface by sanding. Make sure to wear eye goggles, a dust mask and work gloves.

2. Even the surface out by using filler in gouges. Sand with fine grit sand paper.

3. Prime the surface to ensure good adhesion and paint uniformity.

4. Apply at least two coats of chalkboard paint with your choice of paint brush -- nylon, foam or roller.

5. Allow paint a one week "cure" or drying time.

6. Condition the chalkboard by rubbing over the entire surface with a piece of chalk. Erase the board with a paper towel or felt cloth. Then wipe the entire board completely clean.
