Reverse Oil Paint On Glass

Reverse painting technique on glass takes patience and skill.

Reverse painting is a well-known technique that is traditionally used on glass, according to artist Sally Willson at Ask Missy Boo. The technique involves painting first what you would have normally painted last on a canvas medium. For example, berries must be visualized on glass before the stems of the berry bush can be painted. Oil paint is typically thin, prone to smearing and takes a good deal of time to dry.

Instructions

1. Tape the picture you intend to render on the door frame if you are painting on door glass. Keep the image nearby if using another type of glass.

2. Cover the perimeter of the glass frame with painter's tape.

3. Paint the smallest objects from the picture onto the glass. Continue painting this way until the largest background images are the last things to be painted.

4. Allow one day for paint to dry. Remove the painter's tape from the frame edges.
