Types Of Butane Lighters

Butane lighters come in a number of varieties.

Butane lighters are commonly used by smokers of cigarettes and cigars alike for lighting their tobacco of choice. However, there's a variety of different styles and varieties of butane lighters that you can purchase and use for your smoking needs. All of them use liquid butane and fire the fuel as a jet of gas, but that's where most of the similarities end.

Flame

One of the major differences between different butane lighters is their flames. Torch lighters have narrow flames that burn hot and which are reminiscent of welding torch flames, for instance. There are also butane lighters that have multiple flames, two or even three just to ensure the necessary burning. There are also windproof flames, which are wider and more difficult to blow out or disperse, so the lighter can be used in high winds or other environments that aren't friendly toward burning flames.

Body

The container that butane comes in, the body of the lighter, is also something that changes with different butane lighters. Regular or standard butane lighters are small, rounded cubes that usually have a flip top opening for the lighter vent. Other types of butane lighters, specifically those meant to light pipes, have more of a pistol grip so that the lighter can be turned in a multitude of directions for best lighting. These are just a few examples of the different spins manufacturers can put on a butane lighter's body shape.

Style

The third component of a butane lighter, since all of these can be mixed and matched together, is the style. Different from the body shape, the style refers to the decoration or the appearance of the lighter. For instance, vintage butane lighters might have silver plating or monogramming meant to look like Victorian or 1920's lighters. Novelty styles could have inlaid dragons or other fantastical creatures, including an open mouth where the flame comes out. The style is just one more facet of the lighter, and it's what users might call its personality.
