Teach Children To Write Numbers

Writing Numbers

Preschool children are often very eager to learn write numbers and letters. It is wise to proceed carefully with young children when teaching them these fine motor skills so that they do not get frustrated. Make the process of teaching children to write numbers fun and your child will develop many successful learning habits. The most important thing to remember is to keep the learning process fun and encouraging for your child.

Instructions

1. Teach one number at a time and do not proceed to the next number until your child has mastered the current number. Write an example of the number along the top line of the writing tablet with the black marker.

2. Draw a dotted outline of the number all along the next line of the writing tablet with the black marker.

3. Ask the child to trace the dotted outlines you have drawn. When the child is comfortable and confident, encourage the child to write their own numbers on the next line without dotted outlines to trace.

4. Encourage your child to practice writing the number until they are able to write it well.

5. Proceed to the next number in the same fashion after the current number has been confidently mastered by your child.

6. Keep the actual number-writing lessons relatively short. Do not require the child to sit and write for longer than ten minutes at a time to ensure that the lessons are positive and productive.

7. Look for ways to incorporate number counting and writing into activities for practice. Ask your child to count items and write the numbers on paper.
