Remove Paint From Brass

Brass is the general term for alloys containing zinc and copper. When you hear the term brass, the reference is not always to solid brass, but brass-plated metal as well. A lot of antique hardware is made of solid brass or brass-plated metal. Regardless of what type of brass you are treating, you'll need paint thinner to remove paint and protective equipment such as a face mask, gloves and goggles.

Instructions

1. Pour paint thinner into the metal bucket. You ideally want enough paint thinner that the brass object is submerged when you place it in the bucket. If you are removing paint from a large brass object, simply soak a cloth or toothbrush in paint thinner.

2. Place the brass item in the paint thinner and let it soak for several minutes.

3. Scrub the painted area of the brass with a toothbrush or cloth to remove the paint. Continue until all of the paint is removed.

4. Rinse the brass object well in warm water. Apply a brass cleaner and rub it into the brass with a clean cloth. Buff well with a buffing cloth.
