Remove Paint From Canvas

It is possible to remove at least some of the paint from the canvas.


Painting is a hobby that many people learn while they are still young, mostly during the elementary school period. Still, some people decide to develop their painting skills when they are older. While painting can be a fascinating experience, people do make mistakes, and so you might face the dilemma of remove some paint from a canvas. Experienced artists know that once you put on layers of paint, it may be difficult to remove it, Still, the task is not impossible.


Instructions


1. Remove the paint from canvas with a clean brush or a cloth, soaked in water, if the paint is still wet. Oil-based paints are easier to remove than acrylic ones because they need more time to dry. Watercolors are always easy to remove as they dissolve well in water even when dry.


2. Use a putty knife to scrape away the dry layers of acrylic or oil paint. Be careful not to damage the canvas, though.


3. Use rubbing alcohol to remove dry oil-based paints. Dip the soft cloth in the alcohol and apply it gently to the paint that you'd like to remove.


4. Use gesso, which resembles paint but is used as a primer, to cover the layers of paint that you couldn't remove from the canvas.
