Write A Graduation Thank You Card

Writing a thank you card is a proper gesture to acknowledge a gift giver.

Some gifts are fabulous, some are dubious and some may be downright awful. But when a friend or relative takes the time to send you a gift to celebrate your graduation, it is polite to thank them. Writing thank you cards is one of the most basic forms of etiquette and it should not be neglected or put off. Crafting a graduation thank you card does not have to be difficult as long as you remember a few basic concepts.

Instructions

1. Hand write the thank you card. Although email or a phone call may seem simpler, they don't show the same amount of effort and gratitude as a hand-written note. The recipient of the note will also be able to appreciate that you took the time out of your hectic post-graduation schedule to acknowledge their gift.

2. Be specific in your thank you card. Notes that seem generic are almost worse than no thank you at all. Refer to the giver by name as well as thanking them specifically for the gift. Mention the gift in the note, but If they sent cash, do not mention a dollar amount. Simply thank them for the generous gift.

3. Tell the giver why you particularly like their gift, or how you intend to use it in your life post-graduation. For example "The earrings you sent are lovely. I loved having something so beautiful to wear for the graduation ceremony."

4. Express your gratitude for any efforts they made to attend your graduation. If they were unable to attend, share how the ceremony went and let them know you will enjoy seeing them in person sometime in the future.
