You can create a peacock feather image using a stencil technique.
Painting a peacock feather motif can be a charming project for furniture pieces, murals and other art projects. If you want to paint a peacock feather but aren't sure get started, consider using a stencil technique, which cuts back on the guess work. You can make your own feather stencil out of cardboard, which saves costs over purchasing a premade stencil from an art or craft store. Plus, a stencil makes sure you end up with a uniform, perfectly sized feather every time.
Instructions
1. Find an image of a peacock feather, either from a magazine, a book or a printout of a downloaded image from the Internet. Cut out the inside of the feather image, so you have the outline of the feather remaining on the paper.
2. Place the cut-out image on top of a sheet of cardboard. Trace the image onto the cardboard, then cut out the traced lines. You should now have a cardboard stencil of a peacock feather.
3. Lay the cardboard stencil over the paper or fabric you want to paint the feather onto. Dip a foam paintbrush into a bit of gold acrylic paint and fill in the bottom third of the stencil with the paint.
4. Dip the paintbrush into blue acrylic paint and fill in the middle third portion of the stencil. Don't worry about the paint colors bleeding, as this will just add to the feathered look.
5. Dip the paintbrush into turquoise acrylic paint and fill in the top third of the stencil, then peel the stencil away to reveal the feather image.
