Remove Bird Droppings From Fabric

Successfully removing bird droppings from fabric requires several steps.

Bird droppings can ruin fabric if they are allowed to sit for any length of time. A bird's diet consists of a variety of natural staining agents, including berries and seeds. Despite the propensity of these items to cause stains, there are a few products which have proven to be effective in removing the stains left by bird droppings. The next time you are the recipient of an unwanted gift from a feathered friend, take action right away and prevent a stain from occurring.

Instructions

1. Remove any debris left by the bird droppings by gently scraping it away with the dull end of a knife.

2. Place the soiled fabric under a cold running faucet, if possible. If the item is too large for this, rinse it several times with cold water.

3. Apply 1 tbsp. of hydrogen peroxide to the affected spot and allow to sit for five minutes. Hydrogen peroxide should only be used on white fabric. For color fabric, apply 1 tbsp. of grapefruit extract and allow to sit for five minutes.

4. Rinse the soiled fabric with 1 cup of white vinegar, followed by warm water.

5. Run the fabric through the washing machine using cold water if its size allows. Follow the pre-treating recommendations for your specific brand of detergent.
