What Are Jobs That Involve Children's Entertainment?

Many people desire to work with children outside of the context of being a teacher. The alternative is jobs that entertain children. Working in children's entertainment provides a variety of job possibilities and offers you the opportunity of enriching a child's imagination as well as educating him and providing creative outlets.

Children's Theater

Working in children's theater is an ideal way of entertaining large numbers of children on a regular basis. The inner works of a children's theater are not that different from those of contemporary theatre houses. Stage productions are designed with children in mind so many productions involve colorful sets and costumes. Many children's theaters also provide workshops and other off-stage activities designed to be creative and educational. Jobs in children's theater include set designer, costumers, actors and musicians. There are also administrative jobs as well that involve the running of the theatre and do not constitute performing on stage.

Children's Book Writer/Illustrator

Being a writer/illustrator for children means having an imagination and a feel for the images and stories that will be of interest to a child. This work can be geared toward specific age groups from toddlers to young adults. Many writer/illustrators focus on young readers who are discovering books for the first time or in the early stages of reading unaided.

Professional Clown/Face Painter

Being a clown gives you the opportunity to work with children of all ages and in a variety of settings. Clowns are not just at the circus or children's parties. Professional clowns work in many places that are family-oriented such as amusement parks or festivals. Part of being a professional clown is being handy with face paint in doing up your clown face. Clowns also act as face painters for children at events by giving excited children their own brightly colored clown or animal face to wear for the day.

Children's Party Planner

Planning children's parties is not just for a child's birthday. Children's parties can be held to celebrate milestones in a child's life or just an event for a child to have fun with friends. Being a planner involves working with parents to develop a party theme and a variety of games and activities to keep the children entertained. It also involves working with various party supply vendors, performers and menu planning depending on the nature of the party.
