Use Glass Paints

Decorating with glass paints is a fun activity for children and adults. You can turn simple household objects into beautiful works of art glass paints. Projects include flower vases, drinking glasses and even windows. Glass paints come in metallic, opaque and transparent varieties that can be baked in a household oven, to preserve forever. Glass paint projects are ideal for Mother's Day gifts, birthdays or Christmas.

Instructions

1. Design your project on paper first. Sketch a picture of the vase or glass you will be painting and draw a guide so you know which glass paint colors you will need.

2. Shake the bottle of glass paints thoroughly to blend the paint.

3. Mix 1 or 2 shades of the glass paints on a paper plate to achieve a richer tone. Mixed glass paints are also thicker, offering more coverage.

4. Dip the brush into the paint and lightly coat it. Don't saturate the brush with the glass paint or you will have smudges and drips.

5. Fix any mistakes quickly with a cotton swab for wet paint. For glass paint mistakes that have already dried, use a sharp razor blade to carefully scrape away the paint.

6. Bake your glass paint project once it has dried. You can use a regular household oven, just be sure that the oven is cold when you put the glass inside. The glass needs to be the same temperature as the air at all times, or it may crack.

7. Follow the glass paint manufacturer's directions for baking times and temperatures. Also be sure that the glass doesn't touch either the top or bottom heating coils, or it may crack. Let the glass cool inside the oven completely, before removing, to prevent cracking.
