Remove Bird Droppings From A Wooden Deck

Fresh bird droppings can be hosed off the deck with water.

It's relaxing to sit back on your deck and watch the birds flying around your yard. But what is not enjoyable is finding bird droppings all over your wood deck. Once the droppings have dried, it's not as simple as just hosing off your deck to remove the spots. Use the right methods to remove bird droppings to get the deck clean without compromising the wood.

Instructions

1. Put on a pair of rubber gloves to protect your hands. Fill a bucket with hot water. Add a squirt of liquid dish soap, and mix the soap and water well.

2. Dip a stiff scrub brush in the water. Scrub as much of the bird droppings from the wood as you can.

3. Rinse the area with water from the garden hose to remove the loosened droppings and soap. Inspect the area to see if all the droppings are gone. Depending on the severity of the droppings, a scrub brush and soapy water may be all that is necessary.

4. If some of the droppings are still there, clean the wood with a commercial deck cleaner. Choose an eco-friendly product safe for surrounding plants and landscaping. Follow the directions on the bottle for specific use, as this will vary among products. Rinse the deck well after cleaning.
