Pageant Ideas

Winning the pageant is the ultimate goal.

Developing your perfect pageant approach requires a lot of forethought. Since the goal of a pageant is to win the title, you need to make the right choices regarding the requirements of the pageant. Pageants typically require contestants to choose a platform, perform a talent, and of course have the right wardrobe and hairstyle. Here are some winning ideas for a great pageant experience.

Platform Ideas

The platform a contestant chooses should reflect something she is passionate about. Platforms are a cause or program that contestants support in effort to promote its importance. Choose a platform that you can personally relate to and one which you are willing to commit your time and voice to. Popular themes for platforms are medical research organizations, physical fitness programs and youth groups. You can choose programs that are already in place, such as the March of Dimes, or create your own program. Become an advocate of your platform prior to the pageant to gain a better understanding of what your platform is and develop a plan for promoting it.

Talent Ideas

Showcase your talent by doing what you love, but remember that it must be something you can perform on stage. Common talents include dancing, singing, playing an instrument and baton twirling. Other ideas include martial arts, reciting poems, standup comedy or juggling. If you are struggling with coming up with an idea for your talent, ask your friends for suggestions. No matter what you choose, make sure to practice. If music is a part of your talent, be sure to keep it within the time limits and choose music that would be appropriate for all audiences.

Wardrobe Ideas

What you wear promotes your overall image. Typically, you will need an interview outfit, evening gown, swimsuit, plus shoes and accessories to go with each outfit. In choosing your wardrobe, consider the color, fabric and style of each outfit and how it complements you. Consult the specific pageant directions, but usually you need a suit, a full-length evening gown and a solid-colored swimsuit. Choose colors that complement your skin and hair and look for styles that are well tailored or have them tailored.

Hairstyle Ideas

Try several different styles prior to the pageant and choose which works best for your facial shape. Your style will depend on the length of your hair, so let it grow or cut it leading up to the pageant. Typically you should wear your hair pulled back for interviews, and half up or fully down for onstage appearances. Again, no one style works for everyone so run trials to find your best look. Take pictures of the looks you try to review later. Make sure you try your hair style trials with the outfits you have chosen for your wardrobe.
