Update Microsoft Word Fonts

Update MS Word fonts by downloading new fonts and installing them.

Fonts add personality to a document. Professional or scholarly papers typically use standard fonts such as Times New Roman or Helvetica. Fliers and posters, however, tend to use artistic fonts such as Jokerman or Comic Sans. Microsoft Word comes pre-installed with many different fonts that are appropriate for various uses. If you need to update your font list, you can add more fonts to Microsoft Word by downloading new fonts and installing them.

Instructions

1. Visit the Microsoft Typography website and choose the fonts you want to add to Word (see Resources). When you find a font you like, click on the "Download" link and allow the computer to download the font file.

2. Open your control panel and double-click the "Fonts" option. A new window will open.

3. Click on the "File" menu and choose "Install New Font."

4. Locate the font file you downloaded and click on it. Click "OK" and allow the computer to install the font.

5. Open Microsoft Word and click on the font drop box. Find the new font and click on it to use it. Repeat these steps to update Word with more fonts.
