Las Vegas is a city full of excitement that never ends. Everyone knows about the strip of casinos and nightclubs, but Las Vegas offers many other lesser-known attractions. Make a list of things to see before going to Las Vegas to get the most out of your trip.
Shark Reef Aquarium
The Shark Reef Aquarium (sharkreef.com) is a great attraction for all ages. The shark reef exhibit is at the Mandalay Bay hotel off the Vegas strip. The exhibit is both indoors and outdoors and features many animals such as rays, sea turtles, crocodiles, sharks and Komodo dragons. Tickets to the exhibit are $16.95 for adults, $10.95 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger, as of the time of publication. In addition, if you stay at the Mandalay Bay, you can watch a 24-hour television channel broadcasting the sharks in the exhibit.
Fremont Street
Many tourists do not take the time to look outside the Las Vegas strip. However, Fremont Street, also known as "downtown," offers many additional casinos and bars. Binion's (binions.com) is one of the more popular casinos on Fremont Street, also known as the "home of the World Series of Poker." The whole street has a roofing cover similar to an indoor mall. Many additional activities happen outside such as laser light shows, rip lining and more.
Bellagio Fountains
The Bellagio fountains, at the Bellagio hotel (bellagio.com) on the Las Vegas strip, are one of the few free shows in Las Vegas appropriate for all ages. Every half-hour between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. to midnight, the Bellagio fountains shoot off a breath-taking show. The show features more than 1,200 spritzers shooting water up to 460 feet in the air. The fountains are synchronized to music by stars such as Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly.
Cirque du Soleil
The Cirque du Soleil shows are extravaganzas featuring professional and even Olympic gymnasts from around the world. The gymnasts perform dangerous feats wearing a beautiful array of costumes. Cirque du Soleil (cirquedusoleil.com) has a half-dozen performance sites in Las Vegas, many with permanent shows. Tickets generally cost $100 and up.
