Retouch Photos In Photoshop Cs3

Create vivid and clear pictures in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Natural photos can capture amazing moments, beautiful scenes and memorable portraits, but touching up a photo can make that effect look even greater to the viewer. Without being a technical genius, Photoshop CS3 users can easily touch up photos to make them look clearer, have things stand out and remove unwanted clutter that may distract viewers from the focal point. The process can be repeated basically the same way with any photo.

Instructions

1. Open your photo in Photoshop CS3. Save the photo as a copy so no unwanted changes accidentally get made to the original file.

2. Adjust the brightness and contrast to the photo by clicking on "Images" and "Adjustments" and selecting "Brightness/Contrast." Click the small box to see a real-time preview of the adjustments. Move the "Contrast" arrow a little higher to make the picture stand out more. Take the "Brightness" arrow down slightly to even out the contrast. Adjust the settings until you have an ideal look and press "OK."

3. Crop the photo to achieve the proper framing. Sometimes a photo may have too much blank space or something is not lined up right. Click on the "Crop tool" to highlight the new area of the photo. Adjust the different points and then click on the "check mark" icon to make the crop.

4. Go to "Image" and "Adjustments" and select the "Hue/Saturation" option. Move the saturation arrow down slightly. This gives the image a more artistic look and makes nature shots or family portraits appear more professional and emotional.

5. Retouch eyes in a photo by using the Dodge tool. Set the brush size to about half of the shape of the eye. Change the type of dodge to "Highlights." Set the "Exposure" to anywhere around "30%." Click three times inside of each eye, moving to tool to a different third of the eye until the whole thing is covered. Repeat this for the other eye. Zoom out on the picture to see the results.

6. Click on the Rubber Stamp tool to remove any blemishes on the face like a cut or pimple. Zoom close into the area until it takes up almost the whole screen. Hold down "Alt" and click an area of the skin that is clear, clean and close to the blemish. Let go of "Alt" and click over the blemish. It will replace the area with a selected area you just chose. It may take some slight tweaking to make it fully covered and smooth looking.

7. Use the Rubber Stamp tool on other sections as well. For example, you can remove clouds from the sky, a random unwanted object from a room or a distracting logo.
