Repair Rust Spots On A Car

Repair Rust Spots on a Car

Especially in wetter climates, rust can be an irritating problem. All it takes is for bare metal to be exposed and the rust seems to attack it. Rock chips or dents from other drivers that are left exposed to the elements will form an unsightly rust spot, creating an aesthetic nightmare. Fortunately rust can be easily removed at home without having to pay a costly repair bill.

Instructions

1. Wipe the rust spot and about an inch around it with a cloth dipped in isopropyl alcohol and scrape away any loose paint with a scraper.

2. Sand the area with a piece of course sand paper and be sure to blow away any residual dust.

3. Apply primer with a paint brush, going past the rust area by about a ¼ inch. Allow the area to dry for several hours or until it is completely dry.

4. Use an old knife to apply cellulose stopper and be sure to wipe away any residual material.

5. Sand the area with medium sand paper until it flows with the area around the spot.

6. Apply paint with a new paintbrush, letting it overlap the car's existing paint. Apply a second coat of paint in 24 hours.
