Scholarships & Grants For Art

Art majors may take advantage of a number of scholarship and grant opportunities.


A career as a professional artist typically requires talent, perseverance and dedication to the creation of art. While a degree in art can provide future professionals with the knowledge and training necessary for success, it can also be expensive. Fortunately, there are a number of scholarship and grant programs available to help young artists achieve their educational and artistic goals.


National Sculpture Society Scholarships


The National Sculpture Society offers scholarship awards of $2,000 to outstanding art students who demonstrate achievement in figurative or representational sculpture. To apply, you must be attending an accredited college or university and have a demonstrated financial need. You must submit a statement outlining your background and experience in sculpture, two letters of recommendation and six to 15 slides demonstrating your best work.

The Art Institutes Scholarships


The Art Institutes sponsor several scholarship awards for art majors including the National Art Honor Society Scholarship and the Evelyn Keedy Memorial Scholarship. The National Art Honor Society Scholarships range from $5,000 to $20,000 and are available to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding achievement in art.


The Evelyn Keedy Memorial Scholarship is a $30,000 award that is presented to a high school senior who demonstrates academic excellence and potential for success in the arts. You must be enrolled or planning to enroll at one of the Art Institutes locations nationwide to be considered for the awards.

Art Students League of New York Grants and Scholarships


The Art Students League of New York (ASL) sponsors several scholarship and grant programs for young artists in the New York area who are pursuing degrees in the arts. Awards range from $3,000 to $15,000, and applicants must be a current member of the ASL in good standing to apply. Grants and scholarships are available for students working in all mediums. Awards may be used to fund education or travel expenses related to art study.

Salem State College Scholarships and Grants


Salem State College in Massachusetts offers several grant and scholarship awards for currently enrolled art majors. Student Artistic Development Grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 are available to juniors and seniors enrolled full-time. Grants are intended to be used in the completion of a summer enrichment project designed to further the students' artistic talent. Presidential Scholarships of $1,000 are available to full-time students from freshman to seniors who demonstrate academic achievement and artistic talent.

WorldStudio AIGA Scholarships


WorldStudio AIGA Scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in art and design at accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and all awards are granted based on individual artistic merit and financial need. Women and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply for these awards.
